  1. World Hemophilia Day is annually celebrated across the globe on 17 April to honor the birth anniversary of Frank Schnabel, who established the World Federation of Hemophilia and to create awareness about Hemophilia, an inherited bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot properly. The theme for World Hemophilia Day in 2023 is “Access for All: Prevention of bleeds as the global standard of care”.
  2. Uzbekistan, on 12 April 2023, announced to organize a referendum in the country on 30 April to reform the Constitution.  
  3. Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has announced the appointment of Ratnakar Patnaik as the new Chief Investment Officer, replacing PR Mishra, who stepped down from the role on 10 April, 2023.
  4. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held talks with Vietnam’s Public Security Minister General To Lam and vowed to further deepen the bilateral strategic partnership in New Delhi on 10 April, 2023.
  5. According to the report by World of Statistics, Venezuela has topped in the ranking of world’s ‘most criminal countries’.  India stood at 77 spots while the US and UK were ahead of India in the criminal ranking country.
  6. India’s Nisha Dahiya won silver at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan on 11 April, 2023.
  7. The 12th session of the India-Spain Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) took place on 13 April, 2023 during which the two sides discussed a range of issues related to economic cooperation between the two countries.
  8. Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) successfully conducted the trial run of India’s first underwater metro train under the river bed of Hooghly through a tunnel of 32 metres below water level.
  9. On 12 April 2023, the Ministry of Defence (Finance) hosted the International Conference on Defence Finance and Economics with the goal of facilitating discussions and partnerships among prominent policymakers, academics, and government officials from both India and other countries.
  10. Union Government on 11 April 2023, launched the unified portal of the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN).
  11. The Bihar Government has taken a decision to recruit teachers in government schools through a commission.
  12. The Reserve Bank of India on 11 April 2023, announced the framework for acceptance of ‘green deposits’ of regulated entities.
  13. Cipla, a prominent Indian pharmaceutical company, announced that it has entered into a licensing agreement with Novartis Pharma AG (Switzerland) to produce and market the Galvus and Galvus combination brands, which is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, effective from 1 January, 2026.
  14. On 10 April 2023, the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI) was granted the status of Miniratna Category-I Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.  
  15. Ghana has made history by becoming the first country to approve a highly effective malaria vaccine developed by scientists at the University of Oxford in the UK. The vaccine, called R21/Matrix-M, has exceeded the World Health Organization’s target of 75% efficacy, making it a significant milestone in the fight against malaria.
  16. National Award-winning actress and noted theatre artist Uttara Baokar passed away on 11 April, 2023 in Pune, Maharashtra, at the age of 79.
